I feel so sad for those people who have lost their sense of smell. It’s a terrifying aspect of getting the COVID 19 disease.

The sense of smell is so important to navigating our world. Our nose is directly over our mouth to smell the food before we eat it to make sure it’s not rotten. Also it’s important to be able to detect smoke before the fire overtake the area.

I did not, but my wife did. She had it back in March and is still getting it back. Sense of taste as well. I guess I shouldn’t say she lost her sense of smell though. She claims to smell just fine, but everything smells like rotting garbage. But every day she is getting a little more smell/taste back!

@gondwanalon A sinus infection/Flu took my sense of smell years ago and it never came back. You get used to not having it. It’s still there to a degree but I have to get very close to something to smell it.

I have not had COVID, but we have friends that did three months ago. Two of the four recovered fine. The other two still don’t have their sense of taste or smell, to varying degrees. One of them has ongoing pulmonary issues that her doctor says she may have for the rest of her life. She’s 50.

I’ve heard that loss of smell is less common of a symptom with the delta variant. Which is the dominant strain in our area.
