I think that the series has run its course. The first one was the best and the succeeding remakes have been increasingly contrived and even less believable than the first one.

Getting a new Indiana Jones isn’t going to automatically create better scripts.

Let the series die an honorable death.

They tried already to a degree with Shia LaBeouf.

They chose Shia. They chose poorly.

It’s not really Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. James Bond is such a broad kind of character that it’s easy to replace with different actors. I think it’s different with Indiana Jones

No. We love our wild adventure heroes (and antiheroes), but Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones like the part was made for him. I don’t want to watch somebody else playing Harrison Ford. Give a new guy a fresh start in another role.

No, I would not. Didn’t they also try it in a(n apparently) forgettable TV series back in the 1980s – Young Indiana Jones or something. I didn’t like that. I didn’t even really like putting Sean Connery in as Indy’s dad, nor the rest of that film, and I didn’t even bother to see the later effort. Ford’s doing another one now, which is getting panned by skeptics, though I’m open minded.

Really I think Hollywood ought to start being open to more actually good writers, with new characters, and much more intelligent scripts than the stupid and rehashed crap that they’ve been shoveling out for far too long.

It’s not like Indiana Jones was a brilliantly original character in the first place. There’s plenty of room for other pulp 1930s adventure stories without rehashing that character. IF they’d only use actual good writers.

I haven’t even been to a Bond film since Connery quit. He was James Bond. And Ford was Indiana Jones. I recall that in the 90s, Disney tried a revival of Davy Crockett on TV. Epic Fail. Fess Parker was THE King of the Wild Frontier.

I have hopes for the new movie. I like to think they are trying to make up for the failure of the last one.

I would like them to just stop making movies.
That goes both for Indiana Jones, and James Bond.

“The Crystal Skull” was an abomination. I loved all 3 of the original films, and thought the dynamic with Sean Connery brought a fun and unexpected depth and dynamic to Indiana’s character. It’s hard to see modern Hollywood pulling off a new Indiana Jones with different actors. It’s a great series though, so I’d be willing to give it a chance—though I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I love the character and I love to see more of his grand adventures so I’m open minded about seeing another actor play the role since Ford is no longer able to portray him.

But if it’s going to be shot using digital cameras and projected on the screen using digital projectors, and the producers and writers that are going to work on the project are incompetent people then forget it.

It’s better to let this character rest in peace. I can always watch the original three films every four or five years.
