Schools are open here as far as I know. I live in Florida after all. I know Dade County (where Miami is) mandated masks again in schools. I heard several other counties highly recommended students wear masks, and I’ve seen news clips and it looked like almost every student was wearing mask in counties with big cities. Also, even if students aren’t mandated, some schools the employees are mandated to wear a mask.
Most of Florida is possibly a free for all though regarding masking, I don’t know. All the places I’m mentioning that have mask recommendations or mandates are the counties with large cities, like I said above, and dense populations.
I think it would have been wise to do remote school for one week since Omicron has a short incubation, and then go back to in-person education. Kids came back from winter break (vacations and family visits) and many came back home with covid, and if the majority of kids stay home for five days after winter break it could prevent a lot of spread.
Elementary age kids need a parent home with them though, and that is very difficult for some parents.
I was told by a county epidemiologist today that they are still contact tracing for school outbreaks.
Also, I’ve said this on other Q’s, flu is spreading too.
