You played your parts well, Mr. Poitier. RIP.

Fine actor. Three movies of his come to mind as favorites:

1) to Sir with Love (the first one, 1967, not the TV remake)

2) the Jackal (1997) – the movie was crap, but he played a good and convincing role

3) The Last Brickmaker in America – TV – but he played a good role

I would have included Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, but he was so overshadowed by Hepburn and Tracy – Poitier’s role was too small and not fully developed.

He was great in Lilies of the Field too.

Awwww, that’s sad. I had the biggest crush on him due to “To Sir, With Love”, and watched it many times. (He’s hot!)

I’ll have to check out some of his other work.

One of the movies my Mom took me to when I was child was Lilies Of The Field. He was remarkable!

He had such class.

What was the movie he played in with Tony Curtis? That was the only time I saw him slip into acting black. He sang a song about bowling green or something.

To Sir With Love was my first introduction to this fine actor. He certainly was a barrier breaker and will be remembered for that and his fine performances.

That time in The Heat of the Night that old white guy slapped Sydney, and Sydney slapped him right back! Go Mr. Tibbs!!

The Defiant Ones is the one with Tony Curtis @Dutchess_III.

The American dramatic film The Defiant Ones (1958) was considered provocative at the time because of its focus on racism and its call for racial harmony. The movie was nominated for nine Academy Awards; it won in the cinematography and screenplay categories.

He was indeed a great actor.

I liked him playing alongside Rod Steiger in “The Heat of the Night”. A great film.

Thank him for standing up against all odds and thus a leader in his own right.
He was a successfull author as well.
A very confident man who knew that he could conquer in any endeavor that he tried.
