I’d rather see movies in a movie house. I started going back this Fall once my little art house theater opened up again. Very few people would attend, masks were required and it felt pretty safe. Now with Omicron raging locally, I’m scared to go back. I’m afraid the theater will not be able to stay alive.

I haven’t and I really miss it, but I’m just a big ol’ fraidy cat, so I’m waiting.

Went to a theater last weekend to see The King’s Man. Went the week before to see Spider Man No Way Home. In October I went to 7 movies in five days while at the Santa Fe International Film Festival.

The Omicron spike around here started New Year’s weekend, so I will wait a couple weeks before seeing another movie in a theater. Watched Don’t Look Up last night on Netflx.

Gosh. I haven’t been to a theater in decades. I can’t justify the expense.

I generally don’t go to movies, but yes, I’d go if I wanted to.

I saw Dune in the theater, but that was in the lull in the pandemic before Omicron took off. My local hospitals are swamped. I’m boosted, but I’ll be avoiding crowds until hospitalization rates come down.

Like @Zissou, I also went when there was a lull in the pandemic (about two months ago, before Omicron).
All visitors were masked, and vaccinated, and or cured or tested.

Last time before that was around 5 years ago.

Pre-Covid we would go out the the cinema at least twice a month. Since, we went once. It was our first time in nearly TWO YEARS!!! We saw the new Spider-Man movie.
The experience was quite different. We did buy the usual popcorn. Walking into the theater, we found the patrons were provided sanitizing wipes. We took a couple, and wiped down our theater seats and arm rests thoroughly. There were only three others there (very unusual for a opening weekend Marvel movie, even considering that we went at noon). We loved watching the film, and stayed to watch the post credit bit. As we left, we saw employees begin wiping everything down.
We had worn masks while not eating popcorn, and though that was a bit inconvenient, we were happy with the entire experience.
We have no immediate plans to go back, though we probably will when the next Marvel film is released.

I got my vaccines in a movie theater.

Vaccinated, I almost went to see a movie, but decided not to.

My feeling about it would depend on how many people were watching, how spaced out they were, and how intense the current local infection rate was. Right now, I would not go.

There was a small window (after everyone was vaccinated and boosted and before the omicron surge hit) where we took the kids to see Encanto.

Won’t be going again until the surge is done.

I went once since the shutdown. This was in the fall, 2021, to see “Dear Evan Hansen” with my daughter’s two friends and their mom. There were about one party of people in each row, maximum. I wasn’t very worried about things being wiped down, as I go shopping and all kinds of places and I touch surfaces and don’t get nuts about it.

Prior to the shutdown, I would go to the movies once or twice a month. There was a great little indie theater in the neighboring town. Prices were a few dollars less than the big movie theater and the crowd was more mature and more quiet than the big theater. The snacks at the snack bar were homemade and reasonably priced which was great. We don’t get snacks at the big theater because soda is about 6 dollars and popcorn is about 8 dollars, which is totally nuts. The little indie theater didn’t survive the pandemic and is now closed.

I’m in no rush to return to the theater since the pandemic is in full force now.

I haven’t been, but I miss it quite a bit. In Germany, you can only get in if you’re freshly recovered or double-vaccinated. Unfortunately, masks are only required unless you’re eating, so it’s not actually very safe.

I think I might go back to the pool though, where there is now a new rule: recovered/vaccinated and a same-day negative test. If they did that for the movies, or enforced masking, I would go.

I’ve been to a couple of indoor swimming pools. But not with many people.

@JLeslie Yes, though I would walk straight through the indoor part to get to the heated outdoor pools (and probably visit the sauna cabins, if there’s just a few people around).

@longgone Oh, we’ve been swimming where I live almost the entire time of covid. The pools were closed just a few weeks.

I’ve never heard of people catching covid at the pools here. I’m sure it could happen if people are just standing and talking face to face, but I haven’t heard of anything at pools like I have with indoor activities like bowling, playing cards, zumba, bunco, etc. etc. All of which have had superspreader type events, or at least full tables getting sick from each other.

Our pools are outdoors, lap lanes are only one per lane since covid started. Water aerobics people are spaced. Leisure swimming people space on their own. We have over 80 pools, so lots of people are in the pools daily.

The indoor part you walk through you can always wear a mask. Once in a while I see people with masks even at the outdoor pools, but extremely rare. I am careful touching the door to get to the pool, I use hand sanitizer after.

@JLeslie That’s reassuring. I would try to go at unusual times – and yes, definitely wear an N95 mask for the indoor part, because why not. In fact, I’d be surprised if they didn’t have a rule for that, at least in the changing areas. I bet if I lived in a warmer climate (like you) I would have been even more impatient, but I do really miss it at this point.

I think the last time I was at a movie theater was around 2016. I’m just not that into it. Very spendy, and they come on DVD or streaming so soon, it’s not worth it too me.
