Is It OK To Transfer Colleges Because A Friend Did?

“Great Question” (2points)

I am currently a second semester college sophomore and it has been… an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. My first year was not super eventful but was alright. Then, last semester, one of my close friends from high school started attending my school for the same major as me and ended up joining the same fraternity as me. This experience made us become very close, and he quickly became my closest friend at my school. Toward the end of the semester, he decided to leave our school because he was unhappy when the university informed us that our major would be getting cut after we graduate. While I don’t picture myself transferring to the school my friend is planning on attending in the fall, I often think about transferring to a different school because things at my school just haven’t felt right since my friend left. I often feel like I’m missing something or that I don’t belong, but another part of me feels that I need to just hang in there because it’s often seen as unwise to make life decisions based on someone else’s presence. Can anyone give me advice on what to do about this situation?

The friend’s activity is irrelevant.

What is best for YOU and your future?

I would only transfer to a school that had an excellent reputation for their program in your major. I wouldn’t recommend transferring based on the decision of a friend. You can remain friends despite his distance.

Think for yourself!!! You need to figure out how YOU fit in where you are. Even IF you transfer to the same college that your friend transferred to, you might find that he has met new friends & the 2 of you aren’t as close as you once were. Feeling uncomfortable in college is fairly normal for most. It’s how you deal with your discomfort that counts!!! Work at meeting new people & figure out how you fit in. Life is constantly changing & you need to learn to change with it. Anyway, your friend claims he transferred due to the college’s decision on your major. My guess is that his parents made that decision for him & didn’t ask him what he wanted!!!

You’re in what I call the kindergarten of life. You’re learning how to transition onto the next step call adulthood. College is a lot more than just another school. Consider this a life lesson & learn from it!!!

First – You made it through. Congrats!!!!

I would not recommend a move just because of someone else. I am sure you will find other like-minded people as you move through the rest of yours time there. Focus on you and your studies.

Is it a better college with a better program? Can you afford it? Will it help you in developing your career?

This is what you should be asking.

You can go to your friends collage but don’t do it because he did it, do it if you think it is best.

I don’t know. Did your friend transfer to get away from you?

It’s not a great reason…
