Does anyone here believe there is a chance in hell that the desire for liberal democracy can take precedence over nationalism in Russia?

Russians lived through the results of promised democracy following the collapse of the Soviet Union. What lessons do you suppose they took from the experience?

Yes I have hope for Russia’s youth to advance democracy. I don’t know what the term “liberal” is in a liberal democracy. Also they are realizing that he who owns the gold makes the rules.

In regards to Russians, it likely depends on a multitude of variables.
For instance, age, experience with life before the USSR collapse, whatever they define as a democracy etc…

Speaking as a “westerner,” I believe that democracy, is an illusion of control. Democracies, give people the “power.” Making them feel “free,” and therefore easier for their government to manipulate.

A true democracy/freedom has never been experienced, by any man.

I can hear, the sheep’s wheels turning… What about the USA?..

Shaking my head…..

As far as Ukrainians, I believe that they feel pride in their culture, and survival. Mostly. Although that is an oversimplification…

I’m hoping America doesn’t fall to the nationalists here! The alt-right propaganda machine is unbelievable across the world. Scary.

As far as Russia, I don’t know. There are a lot of people in that country who remember communism, and don’t want it back, but as far as nationalism and dictators, a lot of Russia seems to like Putin. Hard to tell.

I’ll be interested to see other jelly answers.

In our present time of new technologies and a younger generation as the older ones pass on .
These younger ones have not gone through two world wars and so on and they will not accept yet another tyrant in power, so I see a revolution will occur in Russia as many are pushing back the control that Putin takes for granted.
( remember that France history showed a Revolution when peasants had pushed back..and so it could very well happen again in our time)

^^I think sometimes people who never experienced war are naive about it, and that can be detrimental.

Forecast is for fog of war, followed by moral confusion & scattered atrocities. Chance of hell 50%, increasing to 70% later in the week.

Highs – not really any, lows – everywhere. Dress accordingly.

No chance while Putin is leading (misleading) the country.
