“Great Question” (5points)

If we do not know what perfect is, how do we know that nothing is perfect.
And if we don’t know if anything is perfect, how do we know that anything is not perfect?

Perfection is the goal, usually the unobtainable goal. It is the indicator at one end of the scale with unacceptable at the opposite end. It is the job of advertisers and politicians to convince us their product approaches that unreachable indicator. We usually have no problem understanding that unacceptable is a tangible reality, yet we are incessantly bombarded with persuasive arguments that perfection is somehow in the same category.

Like most things, a man-made concept that is only important if you want it to be.

@rebbel NAILED IT!!!

Like many things in life, perfection is in the eye of the beholder. What YOU see as perfect, I might find grotesque & vice versa!!!

In my lifetime, I have seen perfection…& it was well worth the WAIT. ONLY complaint that I have is that it doesn’t come around often enough!!!

IF I’m being totally honest, my idea of perfection has changed in my lifetime. What I saw as perfection when I was in my 20’s, I go back & look again now & think MEH…what were you thinking!!! ¯\(ツ)/¯

Perfection comes from a Latin root meaning essentially “complete”, not absolutely ideal. Either meaning of perfection, is a matter of perspective and opinion.

So, everyone can have their own answers to what or is not perfect.

Hopefully they choose meanings that serve them well.

^^ My run ins with perfection did & still does serve me well!!! Even looking back & wondering WTF I was thinking at the time, I realize that times have changed & so have styles. So, IF it was perfect to me once, it NEVER loses its status in my memory & I still retain that pleasure!!!

Funny how the mind works. ;}

Perfection is the final product of many remakes and once that is done eventually later in time it “still” can be perfected when new technologies are discovered to enhance the original creation.
A never ending process that continues for centuries.

Geometrically, it could be a circle, sphere, equilateral triangle, square, or a cube.

Before I click on your link, I’ll guess that it’s a photo of THE ROCK!

Edit: Wrong! ▲

@Brian1946 Honestly, he was first thought for perfection but I reeled myself back in and decided to go for beauty in his place

The greatest perfection appears flawed.

Without flaw. Anything else?

@LadyMarissa I was intentionally using a blank avatar. When I went to my profile page to change it back, I couldn’t find it at first because it blended with the rest of the page. :p

I’d like to consider a semi-ironic definition.

Perfection is when it can no longer be perfected.

@Brian1946 Going incognito today???

I didn’t notice at first & then you point to your perfect butterfly & that’s when I missed it. It is the perfect butterfly & I was looking forward to seeing it return!!!

kruger_d's avatar

Also, when we say something is perfectly good, it means adequate. What’s up with that?

Brian1946's avatar

@LadyMarissa I was going incognito yesterday, to give the appearance that one of my comments was moderated for being Annoyingly Nonsensical!!! ;)

Perfection is the way our world works (without humans mucking it up).

LadyMarissa's avatar

^^ That’s NOT my idea of perfection!!!
