Do Canadians say ‘zed’ or ‘zee’ for the letter ‘z’?

I was watching Rookie Blue, a Canadian cop show set in Toronto, and they used ‘zee’. I always thought that it was a peculiarly American usage.

It’s Canadian to say “zed” but some Candians say “zee”. Maybe it’a ll the American media.

They usually do say zed, that’s surprising. I can send the Q to some Canadian jellies. I am American, but I think zed is much metter.

I say zed.

@JLeslie I believe the ‘zee’ thing came from an old rhyme which ended ‘U-V-W-X-Y-Z, Now you know your A-B-C. Perhaps it could have been ‘U-V-W-X-Y-Z, The A-B-C is in your head.’ I don’t know if it’s got the same ring to it, though.

^^Interesting. I have a Z in my name and so I have to always say Z like zebra, because it’s easy to mistake Zee for Cee.

I use both.

You know, watching that show, I get the impression that Canadians (at least those close to the US border) are like Americans with a strange way of saying ‘about’.
