Is duolingo an effective and reliable way to learn deutsch?

Ever since I first started using duolingo to learn german I was unsure if it was really reliable, should I keep using it or do you recommend a different website/app?

I’ve never used it, but a friend of mine who used to teach Spanish uses Duolingo to learn other languages. She just did Yiddish recently.

I recommend Easy German and their partner app Seedling. Their podcast is so funny and interesting that I listen regularly, even though German is my native language.
