China.

We haven’t seen or heard much from Al Qaida in a while.

Neither. Putin makes more anxious than either China or Al Qaida.

Neither of those events make me anxious.

The idea of potential Chinese action makes me anxious, as does their willingness to imply they might take serious action in response to a diplomatic visit. It and other recent noises from China have me very concerned about the Chinese leadership being dangerously incompetent.

I do have some concern for the situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East, and for US policy of blowing up people in populated areas of other countries using drones.

Oh shit, don’t want to piss off Al Qaeda. They may decide they hate us and want to attack us or something.

Not too worried about China. You should be more fearful that they are stable technocratic authoritarians.

Well, I learned from Ukraine to no longer think autocrats are just “bluffing”. A lot of people didn’t think Putin would actually invade Ukraine (including myself).

I’m not too concerned about war between the U.S. and China, but I can’t rule out China invading Taiwan (though I don’t think it will happen over Pelosi). I think we are chipping away at the “One China” nonsense.

As for Zawahiri, that was just satisfying news. Talk about someone who had it coming and more.

Oh, neither.

China. We own those other guys and they know it.

El Zwahiri became irrelevant 20 years ago. He hasn’t had serious influence in a while. Sort of a one-hit wonder.

China is stupid for picking this fight this week. They should have just ignored Pelosi and turned a blind eye. They made a strategic mistake, especially with Qi’s part congress in a month or two. China is going to come out of this kerfuffle looking stupid and weaker than if they had said nothing at all.

Neither. Funny how Pelosi’s husband has a court date tomorrow for his DUI. China won’t do more than fly a few jets around. We’ll go to ground before we let them have Taiwan and they know it.

Assassination of Zawahiri, who’s next. Speak up now Al Qaida, want some more?

Putin still scares me more because I do not believe he is sane in the traditional sense.

Don’t forget North Korea.

janbb's avatar

The question is which of those two events. I agree with everyone who said Putin was the most anxiety producing but that wasn’t the question.

Jeruba's avatar

Oh, you’re right, @janbb. Well, I agree with your answer.

Pelosi’s visit was just a visit but Zawahiri’s death was a deliberate assassination and murder by the state always makes me feel uneasy. I don’t like when it is called “justice” either.
