When you are out do you get a smell of Marijuana in the air?

“Great Question” (4points)

Whenever I go almost anywhere I smell a strong Marijuana smell coming from cars and buildings/homes and in parking lots. Seems to be everywhere, I almost get lightheaded just walking down the sidewalk. I don’t want to get a funny feeling just doing normal stuff.

No, unless there is some, which is not all that common where I am. Or sometimes I can’t tell whether it’s that, or dog poop, which smells about the same to me

Smashley's avatar

Only around harvest season.

RayaHope's avatar

@Zaku Dog poop is the worst. I don’t understand how Marijuana is so prevalent. Isn’t that stuff illegal?

hat's avatar

^ Recreational cannabis use is legal here in Massachusetts (~20 US states). Where do you live?

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Don’t bogart that joint @RayaHope

RayaHope's avatar

@hat I live in Virginia. I don’t know if it’s legal but I think that certain people with medical issues can use it. But it seems to be everywhere like there can’t be that many medically necessary users, can there?

RayaHope's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums Oh, I don’t do that stuff. yucky

elbanditoroso's avatar

No, but I live in Georgia, and it’s not even remotely legal here. Or maybe I hang out in the wrong places.

RayaHope's avatar

@elbanditoroso Good for you, that stuff will rot your brain.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

@RayaHope Just kidding figured you probably don’t imbibe : )

RayaHope's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums I had to look up that word: imbibe. Like a sponge lol

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

No prob that’s how we learn.

hat's avatar

You can walk into cannabis dispensaries everywhere here. There were 165 dispensaries here last year, and there must be far more now. Many towns have multiple options.

RayaHope's avatar

@hat You mean anyone can buy this stuff?

hat's avatar

^ You have to be 21 (like buying alcohol).

I’ve purchased from a couple, and some are very nice.

kritiper's avatar

@RayaHope “Dog poop is the worst.” Where have you been? EVERYBODY knows that cat shit is the worst.

Demosthenes's avatar

Yes, often. I smelled some today while out getting my hair cut.

RayaHope's avatar

@kritiper Wait until it rains in the backyard of your neighbor that doesn’t clean up the dog poop! ewww

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Pee Eww! Where’s the Neighborhood Association?

HP's avatar

That’s old news here. Far more common than cigarette smoke, and that’s been true it seems now forever. Speaking of smoking, when was the last time you saw someone smoking a pipe?

RayaHope's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums At @Jleslie’s neighborhood :)

RayaHope's avatar

@HP I can’t say when not for a long time.

smudges's avatar

No, can’t say that I do. And I would know because I love the smell of the stuff, whether burning or just in a baggie; smells more like a peppery herb to me, not at all like poo. Haven’t done any in years, but did have a few gummies last year.

Jons_Blond's avatar

Yeah, it’s probably coming from me. :D

But seriously, it’s all over Madison, WI.

When I’m in the Bay Area, I smell it all the time. Other places, usually less.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Sometimes I get a blast of bong smell out of the blue, like driving in my car, but it’s all due to a traumatic bong experience I had in college.

Brian1946's avatar

I think bong trauma is the reason it’s still illegal at the fed level. ;p

eyesoreu's avatar

Sometimes, but mostly it’s dog farts & buttermilk.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Same here but it’s legal and we have a large medical community. Most people vape it when they park since you can’t drive high.
Still better than patchouli (shudder.)

Unless you inhale or are in an enclosed space, you shouldn’t be affected at all.

RayaHope's avatar

@Dutchess_III ” a traumatic bong experience I had in college.” Gosh, what was that about?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess_III I think we’ve all had those but now I’m curious, too. Haha.

cookieman's avatar

All the time ever since it became legal here in Massachusetts.

One of our neighbors (can’t pinpoint who) has been smoking a LOT of it this summer as it’s been wafting into my house almost daily.

My wife and daughter hate it, but I’m used to it. I went to art school (twice) after all. ;^)

RayaHope's avatar

@cookieman I do hate that smell and when it gets strong I get a little dizzy if exposed for too long :(

Brian1946's avatar

@RayaHope

How about wearing an N95 or a P95 mask?
How about a portable, battery-powered fan?

cookieman's avatar

@RayaHope: May be getting a bit of a contact high.

Brian1946's avatar

@cookieman

“One of our neighbors (can’t pinpoint who) has been smoking a LOT of it this summer as it’s been wafting into my house almost daily.”

Does this neighbor toke outdoors?

HP's avatar

Now that the city is is saturated with legal dope stores, its the profusion of “edibles” that’s flagging my impulses. I’m a BIG fan of sweets, and formerly vacuumed in any baked good proffered. But nowadays, the infused goodies are passed around as readily as the traditional glories, often jumbled together. The poker game had a smorgasboard of gummie bears, cupcakes, cookies. The 3 women were talking about experiments with ice cream. You gotta wonder.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@HP We are seeing a rise in tincture for medical patients, mostly at end of life. A few drops under the tongue works for many.
One older man used it in lotion and said he felt his feet for the first time in two years! (He has Parkinsons) We are so encouraged with what we see, lthough it took a long time to convince Boomers it was legal and they wouldn’t ‘get high’.

Strauss's avatar

Have you ever noticed the odors in the air in the vicinity of a bakery? Or a coffee roaster? How about an oil refinery? It shouldn’t be surprising that a cannabis grow or package operation would contribute its own unique odor to the neighborhood.

cookieman's avatar

@Brian1946: That’s my guess. We haven’t been able to see who is doing it.

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I do wear a mask indoors in a public place but outside in the open air like walking down the sidewalk I normally don’t. It can get very strong sometimes. @cookieman Is there a way to counteract that contact high? It makes me feel funny.

RayaHope's avatar

@Strauss Oh I love the smell of freshly baked stuff but I try to not eat that because I don’t want to gain any weight. Oh gosh fresh ☕ is heaven :)

cookieman's avatar

@RayaHope: Short of wearing a mask, I don’t think so.

Brian1946's avatar

@RayaHope

How did you make that ☕ emoji?

Copy and paste, or are you posting with a smart phone?

WhyNow's avatar

I smell love in the air so I stay home.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Brian1946 Even my Android does that but I think it’s ‘illegal’ n this site so I only use them in PM’s. We’ll see!

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I just type in coffee and it pops up! ☕ Here’s one for you ☕ enjoy :)

RayaHope's avatar

@WhyNow I LOVE love but sometimes it can stink.

cookieman's avatar

Waitaminute… coffee

Didn’t work.

RayaHope's avatar

@cookieman I must be a computer genius lol…NOT!

kritiper's avatar

@RayaHope Does that also apply to a yard that has as much cat poop as your other neighbor whose yard is incredibly dog poop ridden?? (Since we’re talking about something that is comparative, presumably?)

smudges's avatar

@RayaHope Being near marijuana smoke often and in poorly ventilated areas (like a car with the windows rolled up or a small bedroom without a fan) may result in feeling a limited amount of the effects that the person smoking experiences.

But catching a whiff of marijuana fragrance through your apartment window or entering a room where people were smoking several hours ago is very unlikely (maybe even impossible) to affect you at all, especially if you’re outside. Smelling marijuana smoke in passing once in a while is a lot different from living with a habitual marijuana smoker who uses marijuana in your presence regularly.

I don’t think you should worry about getting high, and any ‘feelings’ you get are likely due to the power of suggestion – you think you’re getting high, so you create unusual feelings.

RayaHope's avatar

@kritiper Cats bury their poop so it’s impossible to smell it at least most of the time. My cat goes in his litter box and I scoop it out and flush it away.
@smudges I didn’t know I could do that. Do you think it could be all in my head?

smudges's avatar

@RayaHope I can’t say for certain because I don’t know, but yes, it’s possible.

RayaHope's avatar

@smudges It really happened at a party not too long ago but I was inside and there were people everywhere and the smoke was all over. I couldn’t get away, maybe smelling it now gives me some kinda flashbacks. idk
