Why keep the ugly dark brown shag carpet? Is it a rental place? White walls, or steel blue gray tone or taupe can soften the look of the horrid brown

Well, orange of course.

Gold, yellow, rose, blue-gray. Look at photos of luscious African American people wearing eye shadow and other makeup for inspiration.

Sunshine yellow

Anything as long as the carpet marches the drapes. Jokes aside I would pick forest green or cyan.

Teal and pale yellow?

I second yellow. Purple or a royal blue.

Here’s another idea. Buy an area rug to cover most of the brown shag.

Orange, coral, or pink. Also, aqua blue, medium blue, or several shades of yellow. Forest green or a really bright green. Even neon colors could work.

I love brown.

Check out Coolors. That’s the trending palettes page where I’m sure you can find some with brown hues. Alternatively you could use the generator on the site to make your own palette (that’s one I came up with very quickly).

Try Houzz.com and search brown. If you don’t get much try brown carpet or brown cabinets.

A nice oak hardwood floor, after you rip up that ugly dark brown shag carpet. Perhaps a pretty tile floor that looks like sandstone.

Really any color. Just put up a couple of lava lamps to draw the eye away from the carpet.

Paisley. Or multiple colors.

Yellow and orange, with a touch of turquoise for accent.

Charcoal with yellow and orange accents.

I like pinks or lavender with brown.

If you think it is ugly, then nothing you do will help. Your eyes and mind will always focus on it’s glorious ugliness.

I like palette 3 best.

Number one.

It looks lighter and brighter and almost metallic. I’m kind of into sparkle and gold and silver right now.

I came back to add I intensely dislike palette 2.

@Hawaii_Jake Do you dislike that there is a lot of brown? I was picturing more of the other colors with less brown.

@tinyfaery Yes, the brown is awful. It overpowers the other colors.

I’m digging 1 or 3. I agree with @Hawaii_Jake about 2.

I like 1 very much and I love 3, particularly the textile! #3 looks too much like ugly 70s to me.

I vote for number 3.

Agreed. The dark blue might be too dark next to the dark brown.

Are you looking at that actual fabric or just the palette? I think the dark blue would be ok but if it’s just part of the palette, you could use it less.

Maybe a beige or a cream color? If not I guess a very dull lavender

I really like the fabric. I want to go for a crazy pattern for my curtains and I thought that this fabric was lovely.

@tinyfaery My vote is yes then!! If you’re worried about the dark blue being too much, use that fabric as you suggest for the curtains and maybe go with a solid cream or something else pale on the bed.

^^Yes, or a pinkish coral. I put that in my first answer. Maybe she doesn’t like the pinks. I tend to go more orange, but anyway something on the other side of the color wheel from the blues and greens. It still will look good without it though.

More white or cream for me, maybe the walls are a shade of white. I like a lot light neutral in the background.
