Besides accuracy tests, what are some examples of a measurement itself being the topic of interest?

“Great Question” (2points)

We measure things to quantify information about reality.

What are some examples of taking a measurement as itself the sought after end.

Clearly, accuracy seemingly fits this description as an example.

Sorry for any confusion.

I am asking for examples of a measurement taken which has a focus on the measurement, and NOT on what was measured. I offer that accuracy is a sure example of this. Possibly, analyzing the speed required to take a measurement is another example.

But, using a scoop to measure coffee is not an example, since the purpose is to get the right amount of coffee. The measurement is not the end the coffee drinker is after.

Now, if one goes to the neighbor and asks for a cup of sugar, and brings a custom measuring cup intentionally labeled1.5x too big, the neighbor might notice that and do an accuracy comparison with their own measuring cup. In this instance, the sugar is not the subject of the measurement, it’s the measurement itself.

Thanks everyone

So kind of like how temp readings in Engine 3# of the SLS showed bad values, but turned out the sensor was bad?

@Rocketguy, yes I think diagnostics would fit under accuracy. I think accuracy might be by definition the only meta data of measurement.

How about the measurement in the movie: “The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain”? cute movie

Calibrating clocks. You are not interested in the time, but accuracy of the tool.
