I suggest you get the newly formulated booster made to fight the omicron variant. Yes, you can do it now.

Yes please get it now.

I plan to, I think it’s a good idea for most of us to get it when we can, to protect ourselves and others.

Only reason to wait is if you are planning a trip later this year like Thanksgiving, then time it to get the booster two or three before travel.

I saw my primary care physician on 9/2 (for something else), and I happened to ask about boosters. He said that he wasn’t recommending them currently for most people. But I believe this was right before the newer boosters that target the current strains were available.

I think I’d get the new bivalent shot if I were you. I haven’t read up on the advice regarding if you have had only two shots so far, and I have no idea how many grams of the original is in the new shot?

The way I understood it, Pfizer people needed a boost more than Moderna with the original regimen. Pfizer has a lower dose.

I did get a Moderna half does third shot, but I didn’t do the fourth. I decided to wait for this newer shot with Omicron protection. I’m just waiting a month or so to see how the shot does put in the population. It wasn’t tested for efficacy, it was tested for safety in animals, and now thousands of people have received it. I’m hoping it’s better at preventing infection than the first vaccines.

I’m not a doctor.

My doctor said no more boosters. I’m waiting awhile myself.

@KNOWITALL I seem to remember you had covid? I wouldn’t bother with a booster if I had been sick within the last 6 months or so. Maybe your doctor was taking that into consideration.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie No, never had it. But nothing I did kept my mom safe and alive so I doubt my ability to keep anyone safe through mask, handwashing and vaccines.
I’m still grieving and pissed it killed her.

@KNOWITALL I think masks help, but not foolproof. I know I don’t need to state your mom must have caught covid somewhere else since you never had it.

Probably, the vaccines didn’t do much for her because of her illness. It’s very sad. I know people with similar stories to your mom’s.

Your anger is understandable. I know how careful you were, and especially living in an area with a lot of people who weren’t taking covid seriously.
