To answer the “focus advertising,” it goes back to 1953 through 1987 ?. . . so how can the put focus on people that far back. It also impacts kids if the parents worked on base or lived near.

So their focuses are way off – I’m 300 miles away and have never been there. The only thing they have going is that I am male and approximately the right age group. That’s pretty lousy market targeting.

My uncle earned some money in 2000 or so from lawsuits for suffering from asbesteosis contracted in the Naval Yards during WW2.

@smudges what sort of broadening of the mind do you believe required to conclude other than that these spam messages are anything but efforts by law firms to fatten their bottom lines? Is that actually an unreasonable narrow minded assumption? What’s YOUR reason? If you agree it is spam, who benefits? WHO is responsible for it?

I’m getting them too. They’re even advertising on my local TV channel every 30 seconds or so. There’s a class action lawsuit in the works & they are targeting everybody within a 500 mile radius. There were a lot of Marines stationed there & many government workers who could be living anywhere now. These scammers don’t care IF they get 1 or 1,000 people filing on the lawsuit. The can’t file the suit IF they don’t have any clients, so they are fishing for dollars!!!

With my emails, I mark them ALL as SPAM & now I don’t seem to be receiving as many emails now.

@HP I’m thinking of the people who drank the poisoned water. Sure the lawyers want money, what else are they in business for? They’re using the only logical method to find anyone who has been affected. Usually it takes many years for problems to show up, and even more years to trace where they come from. At any rate, you can be sure that this didn’t just pop up out of the blue.

I don’t hear anyone complaining about the mesothelioma cases, or the talc products lawsuits, or agent orange, or the opioid crisis, so why this one? Simply because someone brought it up to bitch about and you joined in? like “Yeah, that makes me mad too!”

Oh, ffs, just delete the emails or mute the TV or whatever. It would probably take less energy than spewing this outrage. If somebody who has been damaged by this benefits from the suit, good for them.

My husband was there a few times during the years they speak about. We keep getting a lot of mail on that and even official notifications from the government. Some are lawyers trying to make a quick buck but for the most part, they are just trying to spread the word around and make sure everyone is notified.

I’m getting a pile of them too. They usually end up in my spam folder.

The return address on the latest one was: contact@nikefree-runstore.com. I seriously doubt Nike was involved with this email.
I figure they are phishing.

I assume it’s real as some other lawsuits people I know and love are involved in. And dying.
One person was advised to name beneficiaries as he would likely be dead before it was settled. :(

I WASN’T getting these emails until I read this question, and now I have 5 emails concerning Camp Lejeune.

Geese, guys. We have marketing around us everywhere, constantly and people are harping over this one? Do you get pissed off at Pepsi for shamelessly advertising in a bald faced attempt to pad their bottom line? It’s what they do. If you don’t want it, ignore it.

The base was highly contaminated for 30 years, causing all kinds of health problems, for which the majority of victims were never compensated. In August, federal legislation was passed to make it possible for uncompensated victims to sue. So there’s a new ability for victims to sue and thirty years of potential victims to inform about the law. Of course they’re going balls deep in advertising. Remember when it was all sports gambling ads a few months ago? Those weren’t PSAs informing people of their new rights.

@canidmajor I think you misread. I didn’t take it as against me at all. @KNOWITALL is right, no one should be complaining about these ads.

You can set certain emails to go straight to spam. You could use the words, Camp Lejeune, as criteria for removal. I use to get a lot of email for surveys and donations. Now I set my email to send them to the spam folder and I don’t get a million phone notifications.

As my dad would have said, I must be living right because I have yet to receive even one email dealing with that. knock wood

I’ve been getting a ton and have also wondered the same.

Part of the answer is legitimate marketing to reach people for these lawsuits, but most assuredly another part is scammers trying to trick old people.
