Are you going to be buying Prince Harry's book?

“Great Question” (5points)

If so, are you a fan or just morbidly curious or what?

And are you in the US., the U.K., a Commonwealth country, or elsewhere, if you don’t mind my asking?

I would like to read it. He is brave for speaking out against the institution. He has my respect.

No. I am sure anything I would be interested in will be reported in the media.
What will probably not be addressed in the book is whether there was a DNA test to verify if he was Charles’, or James Hewitt’s.
I mean really.

I bought a pair of whetstones for 112€, and even I could not be convinced to waste money on some inbred noble’s book.
And is he not the guy who thought it was a good idea to dress up as a Nazi?

jca2's avatar

No. I am probably going to watch his interview with Anderson Cooper which will be aired this weekend, and that will tell me enough.

I think constantly putting out books and shows about his family drama will cause rifts in the family that will never heal. I think he is attention seeking and doing whatever he needs to do to garner publicity. It sounds like the book has things in it that the Netflix documentary didn’t, and I guess that’s intentional. I didn’t watch tthe documentary yet and I’m not sure if I will.

I don’t begrudge him for seeking fame and fortune but I probably won’t read the book. I’m in the US.

I don’t plan to bother with his book. I’m in the US.

Forever_Free's avatar

I am not interested in his life in anyway. I am in the US.

I haven’t decided yet. I will be watching the 60 Minutes interview, and I am following all this with interest. The Commonwealth comprises about a quarter of the countries of the world, and around 70% of those are populated by persons of color. The backlash that started after the Oprah interview is still going on. A scant few months after that, Jamaica started taking steps to demand reparations for slavery from the UK. Not likely that it was a coincidence. The possibility of destabilizations in a number of regions increases with every new report of racism.

The British Monarchy wields enormous global influence, whether one likes it or not. I have been following all this with interest for a while now, beyond my sympathy for Prince Harry himself and the crap he has had to endure throughout his life.

In the US.

No. Unless his stated goal is to destroy the British monarchy as an institution – which may well be a worthy goal – I see his continued actions as grandstanding at this point. There was the Oprah interview, the six part Netflix series, many other interviews and now a book! Enough. Not interested at all. USA

No, I feel I understand enough about the basics of the situation: family gets mad that son isn’t following established tradition and son decides to follow his own path instead.

Obviously I have a very different perspective. To think that this behavior is “attention seeking” seems unlikely, as his very existence draws attention, anywhere he goes, anything he does, anyone he associates with. No need to seek it, and he is well aware of that. I also think “grandstanding” is inaccurate as an assessment, as I believe he is covering as many bases as possible to get his truth about the whole working of the monarchy out there.

I admire his courage for trying to take control of his personal narrative, against enormous and powerful resistance.

Anyone who has tried to do that, even within a small community, or family dynamic, knows how difficult it is.

And how fortunate so many are to never have to face that.

I know little to nothing about the royal family as a whole and have no desire to learn. U.S.

janbb's avatar

@canidmajor That’s an interesting perspective. I’ll have to think about it. I’ve certainly had to stand my ground in my family to expose truths they didn’t want to hear.

Jons_Blond's avatar

I feel the same as @canidmajor.

chyna's avatar

I’m not really interested in their lives. I did enjoy seeing the royal weddings over the decades, but it makes me sad that the brothers can’t work out their differences. So I don’t really want to hear the dirty details. I’m in the US.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

No. I can not “Spare” the money.

flutherother's avatar

I will not be buying it and I will not be reading it. He is making money by describing a physical fight with his elder brother, a fight that in any family should have been kept private, never mind the Royal Family. I’m in the UK.

NO…I’m in the US & I have absolutely NO interest in his & his wife’s life!!! . I didn’t care that his Mother married Charles. I did NOT care whether or not he belonged to Charles or James. I didn’t care that his Mother possibly had an affair that ended up with him being the result. I DID care when Diana died as I admired her NO matter of what she was accused of doing. Harry has NOT always made the best decisions in his life & I’m NOT convinced that his wife has his best interest in her heart although I do believe that he’s blindly following her lead out of his love for her, so I’m still avoiding anything & everything that they are putting forth until I can better weigh out my options!!! I see ALL this as the personal & provate FAMILY business that does NOT really affect my life, so I think I’ll stick to my own concerns. Even broke, Harry & the little woman have a thousand times MORE money than I do & I have NO desire to help support them financially!!! They chose this path & I just don’t care that much about their lives!!!

SnipSnip's avatar

I can’t imagine what could cause me to consider it.

Smashley's avatar

No, and I’m unfollowing the question to ensure its discussion does not enter my life. I have no time for fake important people.

canidmajor's avatar

@LadyMarissa Just FYI, the proceeds from book sales will be going to charities he supports.

canidmajor's avatar

I decided to buy it when I researched his ghostwriter and realized it was JR Moehringer, who has won a Pulitzer and has an excellent reputation for his writing.
I love reading well-written stuff, whatever it is.

chyna's avatar

@canidmajor Let us know if you liked it.

canidmajor's avatar

I will!

jca2's avatar

The other day, I streamed the ABC interview Michael Strahan did with Prince Harry. I liked it. It’s a half hour and had different questions than the one Anderson Cooper did. I liked both Anderson Cooper’s and Michael Strahan’s, equally, but they were both different.
