Aw, no. She was such an iconic part of 60s and 70s film lore. My Dad had a crush on her and called her “Rackle”. He knew better, but he enjoyed teasing my mom.
One Million Years BC, Fantastic Voyage, 100 Rifles, and Mother, Jugs and Speed are my favorites of hers. I was never a fan of the campy things like Bedazzled and Myra Breckenridge, but that’s what she was reduced to.
I have never forgotten the sight of Raquel Welch running through the waves in One Million Years BC though it seems like a million years ago. I liked Fantastic Voyage too but she didn’t impress me as much in that film. RIP Raquel
I am JUST BARELY young enough that Raquel Welch was kind of ‘yesterdays news’ by the time I reached the age when I might have been all that aware of her. When I saw her in parts, they were usually small, and she was usually more of a matronly figure. And I remember being like “Oh, THIS is who I’ve heard so much about?”
When I was a teen, there wasn’t a male’s bedroom wall that she didn’t adorn. She was beautiful & as far as I’m concerned, she still was at the end of her life considering that she was 82 years old!!! My first introduction to her was in 1M BC.
