“Somebody” is targeting girls’ schools because they are seeking an education. This isn’t new. They have just found a new way to discourage them from getting an education and keep girls/women subjugated.

It is very odd. Over 1,000 Iranian students, mostly schoolgirls have been affected in at least 58 schools across the country. It may be connected with recent anti-government protests which took place in girls’ schools but it doesn’t make any sense to me that these are deliberate poisonings. I keep an open mind but I think it is more likely to be a psychological reaction

Is Iran’s government going to attempt to stop this? They haven’t been.

Is Iran’s government the guilty party? They might be partly responsible. I think it’s the religious right doing it, and they are in the government.

Is this a conspiracy or actual action by Israel and/or the US, to get public support for a campaign against Iran? WTF no!

Should another government, or organization get involved? At this point no.

Would this, combined with other human rights abuses, and differences justify war with Iran and or the west? At this point no.

What can be done? Right now we have to hope it slows down and eventually stops. Usually, I want to go in and save the women. In fact, when we went to war in Iraq after 9/11 I was saying, if we go anywhere we should go to Afghanistan to help the women.

I really don’t ever know how to handle geopolitical situations. It’s so complicated, a lot of times interviewing backfires, it’s just terrible that war and genocide still exists in the world today.

The way I see it, parts of the Iranian government are at fault. There is a fear of women and women’s independence. And most girls turn into women.

Nothing you or I can do. This is internal to a repressive, religiously motivated country.

The treatment of women in the developing world is poor, and in the Muslim world it’s exponentially worse. None of that is new. Read your bible. Misogyny in the near east was alive and well in the Bible (and endorsed by YHWH). Women were one very blurry step above property in biblical times, and that’s about what they are in most of the Muslim world today.

I wish I had a quick and easy solution to offer….but there really isn’t one. Ultimately, these countries are responsible for their own development. We’ve tried imposing development from the outside in a variety of ways and it ALMOST never ends well. And even in the few times you could argue it did, it was more about outside efforts creating the opportunity for the locals to engage in self-determination.
