Do Republicans and Democrats in the US live in an alternate universe?

I’m thinking of January 6th, but it can be applied to other things, as well.

January 6th, I know what I saw on the news that day, and I know what I saw in the news in the days, weeks and months after. Hordes breaking windows, doors, pushing through barricades, jumping all over the Capitol building, hanging on the Capitol building, sitting at Nancy Pelosi’s desk with their feet up, parading flags in the lobby and other public areas of the building.

Now, Republicans are showing video of peaceul tourism on January 6th. They’re saying the other story was all a scam. They’re saying the people that were imprisoned were arrested for false reasons and are rotting in jail for things that really weren’t that bad.

Some from both sides are saying they believe the stories of the Capitol police, the DC police and others, and they know what they saw. Some are saying this is a false narrative meant to push a false story about an incident which wasn’t that bad, yes a window was broken, minor damage, but nobody died on that day and the Capitol police led people around and opened doors in the building. The guy who got ten years for attacking an officer with a metal flag pole shouldn’t have gotten ten years, because a metal flag pole is not a weapon (just one example).

There’s even a recording of Kevin McCarthy from January 6th saying that people are hurt and this is “not the way to do it.”

Is this baffling, or is it just me?
