I am FREAKING AWESOME at cartwheels.

Especially when I’m trying to look like I didn’t really trip over that last step.

When I was a kid, I was minimally functional at cartwheels. That’s about as far as it goes. But I was definitely a two hander.

No. Never been able to do even one. As a child I was able to do somersaults. Now I’m to bulky to do either.

I tried when I was in my early 40s thinking I’d do just as well as I did 30 years earlier. My arms gave out and I fell to the ground.

Not anymore; 60 years ago is a different story !

Nope. Born a boy, girls are more made for such acrobatics.

I can still do them but not like when I was a kid. I loved to just keep doing them straight down the block.

No, I’d end up killing myself .

I just have to perfect my no hand ones. Those are still a little intimidating to me.

I was great at cartwheels when I was a kid. I couldn’t understand why it was hard for some people. The last time I tried one was probably 15 years ago, and I almost hurt myself! Supporting my now heavier weight on my weaker left wrist and not being limber was not a good combination. I naturally cartwheel better to my left.

I still have a great awareness of where my body is in space though. I still point my toes every time I extend, which is a standard in ballet. Dance class is incredibly useful for teaching children to be aware of their body in space. Helps with so many things from swimming, diving and so many other sports, and good posture.

I liked doing them but I have no idea if I was any good at it.

Oh God yes! Oh I love doing them. I’m very flexible so they are a breeze, we do them in PE. I just have to be careful not to over do it.

I could do them when I was about 9. But then I noticed myself not doing them as well as (I thought) I had done them (legs not really staying in the same plane as the rest of me) and my cartwheel skill was all downhill from there.

I think I have done one acceptable cartwheel in my entire life, and that was with the help of an instructor.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Nope. Twisting/turning/rotating athletic moves evade me.

I want to be like this guy, doing cartwheels with a dolphin:
