When I was in my mid-teens, I bought an illustrated version of that book.

I was very young. I only remember the sexual stuff.
There may have been a spiritual element, that was over my head at the time.

It’s definitely a “sex” guide.

Most of it was about totally focusing on your partner.
The physical act of penetration, was minimalized in the majority of the book. Although there were illustrations of all kinds of sexual positions, I took away that the idea is to spend long periods of time massaging, and relaxing your partner.

Some of it, was anatomical in nature. Some had to do with special points on the body.

Actually. I think I could sum it up by saying, it was the antithesis of modern pornography.

As far as application to modern society, that’s hit or miss.

It is probably more relevant in Eastern cultures.

I have had mixed results when attempting to apply what I gleaned from the book.

I consider myself a considerate sexual partner.

It can back fire.
My longest lasting relationship was with a girl who liked to be rough in the bedroom.
In fact, maybe because I am a big guy, I seem to attract those types of girls.
So. My desired sensual experience, may have to change depending upon what my partner likes. I personally don’t enjoy rough sex as anything but an occasional impulsive act.

When I do all the sensual massages, my partner may fall asleep, instead of become more affectionate.

All this being said, it is a real book. Anatomy hasn’t changed.
The book does contain knowledge. Knowledge IS power.
I would not think it would be a waste of your time to at least skip around the contents and see what you think.

I have, but it was quite a few years ago, so my memory is not so vivid now. I was mostly impressed by the gymnastics suggested, complete with illustrations. I also seem to remember something about engaging in a kind of titillating foreplay that lasts all day, so that by the time you get to it, you’re really ready. I liked that idea.

My memoories are similar to @Jeruba.‘s I probably looked at it in high school or college.

The Kama Sutra is about a form of tantric sex, but for pleasure and not necessarily spiritual experience. I read parts of an English translation when I was in college.
