@ willbrawn: Fast Food Nation is mind-blowing. It changed alot in our household. Check out Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me (documentary) for an interesting film perspective.
I just finished reading In His Sights by Kate Brennan (pen name). Not good bedtime reading, if you tend towards dream disturbances.
I read Fast Food Nation and it made me never want to go to McDonalds again (I will go but rare occasions). After this, i suggest Omnivore’s Dilemma, if you’re into learning about your food.
Now I’m reading this novel “Prep” which is “one of the 10 best New York Times Book Review Books of the Year.” it’s about a prep school.
the persimmon tree by bryce courtenay, but i havent been reading much because im busy during the day, and at night i read if i know ill wake up in the morning on time, which is not the case.
hey Mtl_zack, I met Bryce Courtenay a couple of weeks ago, amazing man.
Ok so at the moment I’m reading:
The Time Traveller’s Wife – Audrey Niffinegger (after suggestions made on an older one of these posts!)
Uglies – Scott Westerfield
The God Delusion – Richard Dawkins
The Philosophy Gym – Stephen Law
The Ballad of Les Darcy – Peter Fitzsimons
The Dark Side of the Sun – Terry Pratchett
Foundation – Isaac Asimov
Emma – Jane Austen
Sophie’s World – Jostein Gaarder
More Australian but you can hear the South African in it. It’s rather a… what’s the word… husky kind of voice. He is very passionate and a great speaker. You can hear it here, but imagine him talking about saving the environment and getting very worked up indeed. Wonderful! He gave me a hug and a kiss and is posting me a signed copy of his latest book.
Just finished The NeverEnding Story (amazing – so much better than the movie, and I love the movie!)
I’m about to start Jane Eyre – I saw it at the bookstore yesterday and realized that I’ve always wanted to read it and never got around to it. I can’t wait to start it!
Yay sdeutsch, I love The NeverEnding Story (I think we were talking about this on another thread…)
And I also love Jane Eyre, but a lot of people hate it and find it the most boring/tedious thing ever, so be warned…
@shrubbery – Yeah, I was sad when The NeverEnding Story ended – it was one of those books you just wanted to keep going forever (although, it did end really well!)
I’ve heard lots of differing opinions on Jane Eyre – it’s not the kind of thing I usually read, but something tells me I’m going to like it. I’ll keep you posted! =)
