A day at the DMV: go on Tuesdays. Anytime you want to go to a bank, post office, or any type of public service venue, go on Tuesdays. Even in NYC you will find next to no line.
Hashing out solutions at work when you already have the answer: If you are doing group work, hum-and-ha your way through the meeting while devising new plans and approaches on paper. If you are doing solo work – start working on another project.
Sitting at a child’s recital: hmmm, no help there – just zone out to your happy place.
The basic idea behind wasted time is that it truly does not have to be wasted. A person who wastes time or feels his time is wasted is subjecting himself willfully to a situation, and then griping about the situation.
Think your way out of ennui.
