I would recommend Bloomsbury or the area around Tottenham Court Rd. and Fitzroy Square. From both areas, you can walk to nearly everything in the West End; theatres, Soho, Piccadilly Circus, British Museum, Green Park, St James Park, Oxford Street.

For touristy but atmospheric pubs try the Prospect of Whitby on the river and Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese which I believe is in or near Fleet Street

I lived on Fitzroy Street near Warren Street tube station in 1971 and it was terrific. I’ve also stayed at a hotel in Bloomsbury recently and that was great.

As mentioned above, Camden and also Hampstead are cool neighborhoods a little further out. You would need to take the tube or the bus to get into the City proper for sightseeing, etc.

Notting Hill, duh.

Ummm, Comedian, Cheshire isn’t in London, in fact, it isn’t even near it!!!

South Kensington. Definitely.

I would also give a go to Greenwich, but you have to be aware that you would need to commute 30/40 minutes to get to the city centre.

@Lightlyseared I’d recommend Camden too. Really funky place with a ton of things going on, pretty much central.
