We have a friend, a native of Kauai, he took us on a trip that was unbelievable...nothing that a usual visitor gets to see. He took us to secret beaches only known to Hawaiians. He took us up in mountians to "pick leis" for a family celebration. His father is a lei maker by trade. His father made us beautiful leis for every day that we were there. We never out. His family and friends made all of the local food for us and brought it to us every day with fresh fruit. My daughter had become penpals with his two daughters, and wow!...what an experience for a 13 year old. She did things I never thought was possible. We all even went surfing with their family. It was unbelievable. We all cried when we had to leave. Gordon, our friend, was humming the Beaches song, Wind beneath my wings, to our daughter and his because they were swearing to always keep in touch and be the best of friends for life. They have kept in touch. Gordon would love for our daughter to go and spend a summer with his family when she is a little older. We can't wait to go there again. We spoke with him today about the hurricane which is approaching. He was so kind and concerned when Katrina hit here. They are batting down the hatches and we are praying that they survive unscathed through this storm. When Iniki hit in 92, his whole house was destroyed down to the slab and it took over 2 years to rebuild. Let's all keep the folks down in the great state of Hawaii in our thoughts as they battle the storm! Thanks!
