9/11 was pretty bad. Plus, it led to the Iraq War.
In terms of total badness, definitely 9/11.

As horrible as 9/11 was, from a world wide perspective, I’m going to say the tsunami in 2004.

9/11 thus far but hey we could be in a worse situation

George W. Bush, which led to George Bush, and the diverting of the American Treasury funds to the wealthy as the supposed solution to the American Economic meltdown. Bill Clinton had us out of national debt. Giving Fort Knox to American millionaires is not the way to balance the budget. Hey! I got a credit card! I can spend it out to the limit too!

smullane's avatar

but bill Clinton wasn’t funding multiple war fronts and suffering from the worst attack on American soil All of the above will hurt the economy and increase debt

9/11 was bad. But it was an excuse for worse. The Iraq war, which was spuriously connected to 9/11 – which was organized by Saudi citizens, and had no impact on
the Bush family’s embrace of the Saudi royal family with its millions – has been a much worse event than 9/11 quantitatively: more deaths, more money spent, more destruction of community in the world for the United States, more distrust of our own government.

Just saying.

The death of Anna Nicole Smith, of course! What a terrible tragedy.

The “war on terror” is at #1, then the Asian tsunami. Let’s not forget either the economic crisis.
