@shadling21, regular bus driver might not get the respect it deserves, but tour bus driver could be a really cool job. I have a lot of respect for those guys (mostly, in my experience) who can navigate New York streets, maneuver a bus around windy roads in the Scottish highlands, and seem to know the back way into just about anything. Once, in Canterbury, our bus driver backed the bus up a very narrow cobblestone street to give us closer access to the hotel. My friend commented, “This guy just backed this bus halfway up the street and I can’t even parallel park my Honda Accord.” Combine the ability to drive a bus with a good knowledge of local history, and you could have yourself a very successful career. If you’re in a group travel situation, bus drivers and tour guides can either make or break a trip.
As for the original question, I don’t have anything to add, but my brother did want to be a garbage man when he was in grade school. Not a bad choice, if you think about it. It’s a job that can never get outsourced or computerized, the pay is good, and you don’t have to communicate with anyone if you don’t want to!
