I talk to myself aloud when I’m multi-tasking too many things at once. For example, when I work visitation at the jail – I’m (1) searching for warrants on each person while (2) checking the inmate’s visitor schedule while (3) entering information on the computer while (4) calling the housing unit while (5) connecting the housing unit phone up to the visitor phone while (6) writing the information down to sign out the visit when it’s over while (7) giving out visitor passes to class instructors or attorneys while (8) asking the next person in line who they are visiting. Repeated 120 times in succession, on average
If I don’t enunciate the numbers when connecting housing units to visitors, it gets lost in all the other numbers jumbled in my brain.
After a couple of hours doing this on a Sunday afternoon, I’m lucky to speak coherent sentences to anyone, including myself.
