Haha! Yeah it was pretty horrendous. I realized that I do some of the things I find annoying in other people.
@simone – I had one of those mugs of soup, and I was going to another room of the house to get something. I had to pause when I passed a mirror because it was strange…
So still, why were you eating and walking. If I had to transport my soup to another location I’d wait until I got to my destination before I started eating again.
As someone who is rather “quirky” about watching others eat, I have often felt self-conscious about my own eating style. To be blunt, watching people eat (whom I do not really know) makes me sick to my stomach. I think after reading this I am going to try watching myself eat to make sure I am not exhibiting any of the behaviors that disgust me so much. =)
I recently got braces and had horrible flashbacks of kids from high school eating sloppily and then having sandwich all stuck up in the metal. For the first few times I ate, I tried to look in a mirror to see how I chewed differently, and what I could do to make sure nothing got lodged – without looking like an idiot.
What is everyone’s issue with this? I have watched myself eat before, and I’m fine with it. I’m also fine with watching other people eat and with having them watch me eat. I am very confused as to where the problem is coming in here…
I have a little bit of an issue about eating in front of other people, especially those I don’t know well. I don’t know why, but it makes me terribly self conscious. I’m definitely going to check out a mirror, see what I’m afraid of!
Meh, I don’t really care too much when people watch me eat. I mean if they are staring at me like some freaky stalker that’s a different story. Otherwise, watch away
No. I’m deathly afraid of other people watching me eat as well. I put my hand in front of my mouth if I feel I’ve taken too large a bite or just don’t want to be looked at in general. Yeah!
I agree with GoS on this one. I wouldn’t mind watching myself eat and I watch others eat all the time. I don’t really get why it’s such a big deal. But everyone has their own quirks.
It’s funny. I honestly didn’t know how many people would say, “What’s the big deal?” It seems like a dumb question, but I honestly think that, since eating is something you rarely do in front of a mirror, it’s bizarre to see yourself doing it. I wouldn’t consider it gross, though. To me, it was just a new, odd experience.
I’ve never watched myself eat. Maybe it’s because whenever I really stop to think about the act of eating itself, I get kind of grossed out. Basically chewing something up and swallowing it when your saliva has broken it down enough to digest? Bleh.
