Best internet service in Pittsburgh?

“Great Question” (0points)

I’m going to be working remotely in Pittsburgh, and am looking to get good, simple, reliable internet service. Since we’ll be getting cable service to the house, we were looking at Comcast, but I’m concerned since their two internet offerings look “fancy”—that is, web hosting, e-mail addresses, “the fan”, etc. etc. etc. “Personal firewall” looks a litlte scary too.

Covad & Speakeasy I’m looking in to. Any other options?

I would say Comcast if you get it in your area. I have Comcast at my house and it works great. You get Free firewalls from Macfee that hasn’t let anyone hack into my computer or let a virus get on my computer yet. Just don’t get Ispeed its the worst internet service ever.

Comcast throttles bittorrent traffic. Don’t support them.

As an inhabitant of [metropolitan] Pittsburgh myself, I would advise you to not get Comcast if you intend on using Bittorrent or other P2P programs. If you won’t be using BT, Comcast kicks Verizon’s butt speed-wise. (The only other choice)

Looks like there’s two other local companies:

Nauticom
city-net.com

Anybody tried these? I won’t be using BT, but I’m not a fan of their practices—I want a straight connection to the internet, no muss, no fuss.

@bpeoples
Comcast is what you want. No other company comes close reliability and speed wise.
