@scamp…how wonderful!
I can honestly say, my first date with my husband. (2nd husband) It wasn’t to a fancy place…in fact, it was (don’t laugh!) to a middle of the road restaurant and then to the dollar movies. (he’s not cheap, there was a movie I had been wanting to see and that was the only place it was playing.) Generally, I don’t like dates that wind up at the movies, you can’t talk and get to know each other.
What made it great? When he picked me up, he actually picked me up at a friend’s house – we were in the middle of a Brownie meeting…I had my dates confused and planned poorly; however, I had 11 girls ready to interrogate him! I wanted to cancel, but truly thought my best friend and co-leader would have my head! He came in, laughed and wasn’t scared off by the “gifts in a jar” we were making. He knew my daughter was there, but also understood that I wasn’t jumping at the idea to introduce them, face-to-face on the first date. He met the girls – as a group, and my best friend and she shoo’d us away.
At dinner, we laughed and talked and almost missed the movie. We talked and laughed after the movie – I realized something. Not once was I nervous. The conversation never stopped, we just laughed and talked – like we had known each other for years.
After I got home, I called my friend and my daughter, told them I was home and things went great. My friend told me that as we left, all the girls had their noses pressed to the window and said he was a giant! (6’5”)
We’re still together, married and have a son, together. He is a wonderful dad to my daughter and a great Girl Scout! ;)
