Darwin is saying true, they are most active at these times, and depending on whether they get to go outside too, If they are allowed outside, they will be more active, and it will be healthier for them. But, letting cats out can be tricky, they should be fixed, so that they have less tendency to want to stray, and they should be supervised for a while while learing their boundaries.
They can also come to be quite bored and fat if they have no stimulation like play time for exercise. I keep my cats busy in the house too, they have plenty of toys, but they for the most part love feather toys most of all. It is natural for them to want to sleep a lot of the time though. Hope this helps.
