Is there a syndrome for hungry men that become irritable?

Help! I keep referring to my friends as having “hungry-man” syndrome. Whenever they are hungry, even without realizing it they become irrationally irritable. My father does the same exact thing. I think there is a term or word for this behavior. Sometimes they get to the point where they become extremely frustrated. However the moment that they get food into their systems, it’s as if they become punch drunk.

Hypoglycemia; not limited to men.

Low blood sugar, is how we referred to this in our family. A glass of orange juice before someone opened his mouth was a great antidote.

Pre Eating Syndrome, aka: PES. Very common, indeed.

My wife and I both experience this. The first question we ask each other when we notice that the other is getting irritated easily is, “When did you last eat?”. But there is at least one week a month that my wife becomes irritable even if she’s had enough to eat—it’s weird.

It’s not limited to men by any means.. the past two women I’ve dated are like this when they’re hungry; irritable, easily frustratable, confused, even like their brain functions at a lower capacity (unable to think or do normally simple tasks). I refer to it as “the monster”. I have learned to identify the symptoms of the monster emerging and cut it off at the pass with snacks.

That’s happened to me on several occasions but in my case, I can pinpoint why. I have Type II Diabetes and my endocrinologist has told me that when diabetics have blood sugar fluctuations while they are hungry, it can cause irritability and shortened tempers. Feeling better after a meal is also accurate in my case. After I eat, my blood glucose levels stabilize and I feel much more content and happy.

this happens to me too. one thing i am always careful about this is when i am driving. i almost got into an accident because i was starving. i could not drive and think properly. what i did was i took a turn to the nearest fastfood drivethru. it all went away a few seconds after swallowing a full bite ;-)

Thank the LORDY!!! glad you asked this question…I’ve been thinking I was weird for years because I got irritable when hungry… I think I’ve just got a mild form though… Isn’t the body and wild, mysterious, fascinating thing!!!

It’s not just men, it’s anyone who hasn’t eaten in a while. That’s why people are often mean and cranky on the way in to a restaurant and happier when they come out. Any waitron or host of a dining room knows this. :)

daloon, I admit to having a bad personality. I think I left it out of the fridge too long and it got rotten or something. The strange part is, how do I fix it? I tried covering it with frosting, but that only made me sweet on the surface, I’m still rotten to the core.

Yeah, I understand evelyns_pet_zebra. My personality drove off on a chopper and got a few radical tattoos. I haven’t seen him since. Said he was going over to your place.
