What is your feeling towards the hallucinations you might walk through? If they are hallucinations you feel good about, I’d not walk through them. If they are the scary hallucinations, I’d say you should do it, except that it might make them angrier towards you, and they might do something really nasty.
So, maybe it’s just as well that you are respectful towards all of them.
In January’s Discover magazine, there was a little article about scientists finding that unique mutations are linked to schizophrenia. One of the co-investigators was Jon McClellan, a child psychologist from the University of Washington. These mutations might help identify neurobiologic pathways that, when disrupted, lead to neuropsychiatric illnesses. This, in turn might help researchers develop more specific treatments.
Your brain doesn’t work the same as most people’s. Some ways that your brain ought to work are blocked. As a result, among other things, you see people who aren’t there. They’ve been created in your mind. Therefore, they are a part of you. To walk around them is to respect yourself, and I think that is a good thing. You should take yourself seriously.
You don’t have to prove to yourself they aren’t real. You already know that. What is left is to be as kind to yourself as you can be.
