It has had no effect on my situation, except perhaps that I consider large expenditures more carefully than I once would have. But I tend to be fiscally conservative, even in the best of times.

To be honest, I have personally not been effected at all.

Lost job, 75% of household income, had to sell our home, both husband and I are floundering in career, employers don’t pay as promised, most of our friends have moved from AZ where I live, and there are 10+ foreclosures in my neighborhood, home values are down 50% in 3 yrs, husband lost his business.

Other than that, life is a big party.

I’ve lost half my income due to budget cuts, my wife has lost 80% of her income and we’re in foreclosure, hoping to modify.

Our home has lost all its equity gained over the last ten years.

Our kid’s college funds have been decimated by market losses.

Three days ago my wife’s business mentor, another loan officer, shot himself in the head, distraught over financial problems. He had four children.

@pup—my husband has a handful of friends that are no longer with us due to business failure ect. We count ourselves lucky that we have health and strenght and talent and motivation. We started with nothing 15 yrs ago, and we feel good that we can rebuild. Almost all of my husband’s friends are in bankruptcy, foreclosure, unemployeed as he has been in Real Estate and Lending for 15 yrs. Even his former boss/friend a VP at Countrywide just lost his 2 million dollar house.

The SW of USA has been really hit hard, and we want to move where there are more jobs and better schools even if it is cold.

I lost a considerable chunk of my life savings.

Many of my family members work in the auto industry, and most of them are not sure they will have jobs, any day now. This affects me because I have to be there for them and help out.

My 401(k) is worth about half of what it was at the beginning of the year.

There were layoffs at my job, and even though the husband and I were not laid off, many friends were and he is next to go on the seniority scale, so we’re hoping there’s not another round.

The co-op where I live wants to become a condo complex, which means that we have to close out this mortgage and get another, except we can’t because the house is worth less than we owe on it and we don’t have the cash to make up the difference.

I’m not answering this because no one is listening to me. O well.
It is pretty annoying yeah friggin right to put it in easier words I guess but whatever.

If this is a “perceived” recession, I can’t wait for the real one to kick in.

We are blessed because as a contractor my husband can keep his guys working on maintenance and upgrades to our apartments, but if he doesn’t get some outside work it might be difficult to keep our guys employed.

My husband is about to lose his job, as the company he works for is imploding. No one is hiring, so chances are good that he’ll be collecting unemployment very soon. Our 401K is shot to hell. Christmas will be lean. I will be looking for work after Christmas.

Recession, to me, means more people are talking about or experiencing “paycheck to paycheck” or loss of income for the first time.
