After the move out date on our college campus, we dumpster dove for a whole night to prove a point. Everything we collected we donated to local charities…but over the course of a night we found a whole living room set- nice rug, a floor lamp, a table lamp, a perfectly good futon, a dvd rack, a handful of working tv, a working computer, a couple bean bag chairs, a working microwave and a couple ironing boards. I also found a completely sealed unopened crate of cans of chicken noodle soup, a full 36 pack of ramen, and a bunch of unopened cereal.
It’s very sad on a college campus. We try to do this every year… It seems like everyone packs their car and then throws away things they can just buy later. While that makes sense, it’s really not hard to take stuff to goodwill… I’ve actually thought about renting a storage box, collecting all this junk put in in there…then sell it at the beginning of the next semester when they’re all trying to buy these things.. It’s just so wasteful it makes me sick.
