As of late, I have found that I prefer eating pasta with olive oil instead of butter. I know that olive oil has a lot of fat, but does it have more fat than butter?

The general consensus seems to be that olive oil is healthier because of lower cholesterol. There’s a nice article here.

Olive oil is fat. One hundred percent.

Butter is fat, too, except it has a tiny bit of moisture and milk solids and salt. Let’s call it 99.95% fat.

So the amount of fat is basically the same, the difference negligible. On the other hand, what KIND of fat it is, is very different, with differences in how healthy it is for you.

What do the “Nutrition Facts” labels on the bottle of olive oil and the butter package tell you?
