Do you ever read past the first page of Google results?

“Great Question” (3points)

I think the only time I have was while researching topics for papers or presentations. Have you?

And while we’re on the topic, does anybody actually use the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button? I mean, how often do you know that the first result is what you are going to want? I don’t think that I’ve ever legitimately used the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button…

I don’t. Google has so much stuff in it anymore that it’s hard to find anything. And as far as looking up a person, forget it!

First of all, I have terrible observation skills apparently because I’ve never even noticed the “I’m feeling lucky” button until I saw your question. And I use Google daily. LOL

I can’t think of too many times I went past the first page on Google when trying to find specifically what I was looking for (as far as subject material and stories) but I have done it at one time or another.

On the other hand, when I’m doing a Google search for specific images that I want, I will look at several pages of material to find exactly what I’m searching for. And I’ve been lucky so far because Google has such a vast amount of images it’s almost unreal.

I barely read the first page never mind the other million odd results.

@Bluefreedom When searching images, I surf through multiple pages of images as well.

I barely ever get past the first page. If it isn’t on the first page I refine my search.

The images aren’t as bad to go through as the info pages are, in my opinion.

Yes. In fact, I often go deep into the Google results. You can find some pretty good info that way.

@AstroChuck Good information? Really? I usually find that as the page number increases, the relevance to my search criteria does the opposite…

Sometimes I will, sometimes I won’t. It depends what I’m searching for.

What’s ‘first page’ google, anyway? I have my prefs set to 50 per page and the default is 10, so I guess I’m always looking at the first 5 pages, but to people with it set to 100, I’m only seeing half a page. ;)

If I’m wandering around, yes, I’ll go past the first few pages of results, but if I need specific information, I’ll refine the search on the appropriate page.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@anaphase, I agree. The further I go, the relevance gets to be non-existant.

AstroChuck's avatar

@anaphase- It’s hit and miss. You can find some gems, though; things you weren’t even looking for, perhaps.
I meant good as in fun. Poor choice of wording on my part.

Sometimes if my search was off. (Or if I am looking for my rankings haha )

I look past the first page all the time—sometimes I am looking for just the perfect return. I only use I’m Feeling Lucky if I know what the return will be—either a Google bomb or I’ve typed in a specific website for some reason.

augustlan's avatar

Hardly ever. I have never used the Feeling Lucky button.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

I guess I’m dense, too. I never even KNEW about the Feeling Lucky button. :-(
