Just small nips on your chest and stomach. Could that give a person blood poisoning?

I have had 2 people in my family die from human bite wounds. It was a really long time ago (1920’s ish).

Any break in the skin can lead to an infection.

Any exchange of bodily fluids is just that…an exchange. So if either of you is infected w/ something that can be in the blood (e.g. HIV, Hepatitis, etc.), the other one can catch whatever “it” is…..

Lightlyseared's avatar

There is an amzing amount of bacteria living in the human mouth (no matter how often you clean your teeth) and those bites are going to get infected.

cheebdragon's avatar

HIV isn’t spread through saliva….is it? I’m pretty sure Hep C can be, but I’ve never heard that about HIV.

shadling21's avatar

Agreed. Purify yourself!

inhardcherry's avatar

Guess we should stick to just biting until it bruises then. Hah.

Snoopy's avatar

@cheebdragon See this link

In short, the answer is NO. My thinking in the post was blood from the “bite” could expose the other person to potentially infected blood through an open wound, etc.

I apologize for not being clear.

The likelihood of transmisson in this manner of an infection is extremely low, but it is there….

Also from that link above: “Behaviors that increase the likelihood of contact with blood from an HIV-infected person…..should be avoided.”

EDIT For anyone who may have looked at the original link I had ^^^, I have since replaced it w/ something that is more to the point.

inhardcherry's avatar

If you’re both clear of sexually transmitted diseases, are you at any more of a risk of the bite being a problem than you would be from unprotected sex? I always assumed the bite advice only really concerned deep bites, not just the skin being nipped a little.

Snoopy's avatar

@inhardcherry at any more risk of what….? compared to what?

inhardcherry's avatar

@Snoopy The bite leading to infection.

scamp's avatar

Just curious, when you mention health hazard, are we talking physical, mental or dental?

Snoopy's avatar

@inhardcherry The human mouth is teeming w/ bacteria. Any bite that yields a cut is at risk of infection.

Presuming you and your partner are free of all know diseases, STDs, etc…..Are you trying to compare the risk of infection to the risk of an unwanted pregnancy from unprotected sex…..?

Those two things aren’t even comparable….

inhardcherry's avatar

@Snoopy If you’re in a long term relationship using other contraception, sex without a condom can be safe. This is more a follow up from a random talk and not really research to help me determine whether or not I should let her bite me. Please don’t think I’m weird when I only just signed up. :)

Lightlyseared's avatar

She doesn’t need to have an STD to cause an infected wound. There is a load of bacteria in the mouth that will cause the wound to be come infected. This can range from a bit of mild inflamation to some really (and I mean really) nasty wounds that can take months of treatment to heal. Then of course there is the risk of bacteria entering the blood causing bacteriaemia, which can be nasty (read fatal).

So to answer your question. No I would not let her bite you.

Snoopy's avatar

@inhardcherry I am not judging your sex practices. I don’t care….

If you re read your posts above, you will note that you said:
”....are you at any more of a risk of the bite being a problem than you would be from unprotected sex…...”

ALSO, NO form of contraception is 100%. Period. no pun intended

jbfletcherfan's avatar

MY first instinct with this is WHY would she do that in the first place???

LKidKyle1985's avatar

haha no don’t worry biting wont cause any problems like that. The only concern is if she breaks the skin make sure you clean it because its easy to get infected like that. One time I accidently hit my dad in the mouth playing basketball and my finger got crazy infected from a small breakin the skin. I was in 2nd grade lol.

inhardcherry's avatar

@Snoopy Oh yeah, I just realised I’d written that stupidly. Apologies.

Anyway, thanks for the replies everyone. I guess like anything else, it’s a calculated risk.

Boy! I must be a really lazy “reader”.
Every time I glance at your name, I think it says richardhenry.

Allie's avatar

So do I, Nim.

richardhenry's avatar

It amused me, actually. Maybe he should start using my avatar upside down.

Nimis's avatar

@Allie Hello there, fellow lazy reader!

@richardhenry Ha! Too bad we can’t
give out lurve for avatars (if they did).

Snoopy's avatar

@Nimis I third the lazy reader analogy. I thought the same thing. Must be like the whole shadling/shandling and augustlan/augustian thing.

Actually on this I think it’s because of how our brains process words. There was a study done that said it ddnit mtaetr waht oredr you worte in as lnog as the frsit and lsat lteters wree the smae as the ogirinal wrods. I think that’s the problem.

Hopefully, that proved the point. :)

Bri_L's avatar

I had a 2 mm cut in my pinky finger from my brothers mouth (I was sleeping in a sleeping bag next to him and rolled over and hit him in the mouth). It didn’t bleed. 24 hours later it was swollen 3 times the size and I began a 7 day battle for my life against blood poisoning.

shadling21's avatar

@Bri_L – No way. If you were in a sleeping bag, were you camping? The outdoorsiness probably didn’t help.

Bri_L's avatar

Yes way. I was in the den at my grandmas. I got an infection because it was a puncture wound and didn’t bleed. Doctors words.
