yes, but…we should attach a 6ft cable to their power supply for if they get angry they may turn on you. I’ve never seen a robot with a mood swing, but I’m sure I can get 6ft away pretty quick if I needed to.

I don’t think it’s about whether they should be given emotion so much as if they will be able to successfully emulate it. Machines are things – they cannot feel, no matter how convincingly they portray the guise of emotion.

If we ever get that far in robot evolution, I want one of my own just like they had in the movie Bicentennial Man.

On the other end of the spectrum, I’d pass on an android like Star Trek TNG’s Data because he is just way too uptight and impersonal. And I saw the movie where they messed with his emotion chip and he blew a fuse or two or three and freaked out – no thanks.

god, no. i want to elaborate but i think i’d end up writing a page and looking absolutely mad because i bet i’d fit in a bunch of movie references and outlandish ‘what if’s. but no, no, no.

But if robots are given sympathetic nervous systems, though, wouldn’t they develop emotions as a matter of course? So, NO, don’t do it! Don’t create beings that are going to end up resenting us and then plotting to murder us all in our beds!

Someone shows that they love via actions, emotions, and other signals. A robot could potentially simulate or emulate these kinds of triggers that we as humans translate as ‘love’. Sincerity is probably the most difficult aspect to overcome. You would have to make it appear that the robot was choosing to ‘love’ something out of free will. I think i just complicated this by indicating that robots (such as myself) would have to emulate free will…

I don’t think HUMANS know their own emotions, so how would they be able to make up ones for robots?
