I’m unemployed and proud of it. (j/k)
I quit my teaching jobs over Christmas for family reasons. I really like teaching, especially to older students, preparing them for exams and so on. I get good results, and I guess what I like about it is the fairly instant gratification. You work for a few months and then your students sit for exams and a couple of months after that you can tell if you’ve done a good job based on their results. When I was teaching kids I had to wait for a decade before I found out whether I’d made any difference in their lives.
A decade or so ago I had a mini-career as a rock singer. I was quite successful in that I sang whatever I liked without having to make compromises, and people loved it and I got loads of money from it. I quit when I decided to have a family. I made 7 albums, one of which did pretty well in the charts. And I had lots of fun playing music with some amazing people. Nowadays I just jam for fun, or do the odd guest appearance here and there.
My next artistic endeavour will be to write a children’s book and maybe make a low-budget sitcom for the local TV. And I am already in a theatre group. If anything, I have the time right now.
