Movies flourished during the Depression, so historically, I’d say yes.

There’s no “yes” or “no” answer to this. People and companies are tightening their belts and cutting back, but that isn’t to say there’s any lack of business. You just might have to work harder for it or be more impressive to get it.

Do you have any clients or prospective clients to get started with? Do you have a plan for marketing yourself and getting more work? What’s competition like in your area (or wherever you plan on getting business)? Are there other animation production houses? What’s business like for them? Are they struggling?

You may want to get in touch with your local Chamber of Commerce and see if they can give advice or point you towards advice about things to bear in mind and consider to help you make your decision.

It’s been statistically proven that, in times of poverty, people will spend their money on entertainment before anything else, so keep that in mind.

Example:
Whole family living in a crappy apartment barely making rent but riding around in a new SUV with a DVD player, 22” rims, and a killer stereo system. Or they have a 55” flat screen TV. Or $1000 curtains. I’ve seen all 3 so I know it to be true.

I think you have a shot as long as your product is entertaining.

Now is a good time to start a repo buisness.

If you can make it work now, you’ll have no problem when the economy picks up.

If you can’t make it work now, and wait until the economy picks up, your business will go under at the first economic hiccup.
