These go back a ways, but my favorites are Somewhere in Time and The Sting. Somewhere in Time has some very haunting instrumental themes, the best of which is Rachmaninoff’s “Variations on a Theme of Paganini.” I have played it as a piano solo and it is gorgeous. As for The Sting, well, you just can’t go wrong with Marvin Hamlisch and Scott Joplin together. I grew up listening to this album (yes, album) and I think it had a lot to do with me becoming a pianist.
When Harry Met Sally is also greatness. I don’t know where I’d be musically if that movie hadn’t introduced me to Harry Connick Jr.
