OK, if you define “intellectual” as being more mentally than physically active, then I’m an intellectual. Then again, by that definition so are most residents of hospitals, nursing homes and penal institutions.
If you define “an intellectual” as someone who is more book-smart than street or life smart, then I’m not an intellectual. Then again, by that definition neither is the President.
I do not think of myself as an intellectual, merely as fortunate, literate and articulate. However, I do get phone calls from people who want answers to esoteric questions, help looking up odd words, or just to bounce ideas off me; q.e.d., some people do consider me one, and from their standpoint I guess I am.
Maybe that’s a different question; By observing who considers you an intellectual, you may be able to gauge whether that assessment stands any chance of holding truth.
