Affirmative, I concur on the estimable success of this newest, and perhaps greatest edition to the Star Trek franchise. It seems the adventures of Kirk and crew are ready to dazzle a whole new generation.
From what I’ve gathered, the writing is superb, and Zach, the actor from Heroes, that plays Spock, has taken the character where Nimoy (self-admittedly) had never taken it before!
Remember what Roddenberry called the phenomena known as Star Trek, with all of its writing and acting and chemistry between the actors? “Lightening in a bottle”.
Now it remains to be seen if these actors can recapture that lightening and put on a performance that Shatner, Nimoy, Kelly and Co. proto-typed.
Bear in mind, J.J. Abrams told the actors “You’re not imitating Shatner doing Kirk, Nimoy doing Spock, etc. You’re using what they did as a base, but then run with it like its your own, because now? It is!” (That was ad libbing a bit because I can’t remember the exact words). I also heard in the rumor mill that Eric Bana is a true villian, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Khan! Whoa! “I’ve done far worse than kill you; I’ve HURT you, and I wish to go on… hurting you! I shall leave you as you left me! as you left HER! marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet… buried alive, buried alive!”
