I have a DS with a small crack on the hinge... what should I do with it?

Hey Everybody,

I have a white NDS Lite that has a small hairline crack across the left hinge. I was wondering what I should do with this system. It plays perfectly… I just assume that one day this crack will become bigger and probably break the hinge.

I’ve already pre-ordered the DSi and I feel a little weird trying to sell back a damaged system. I’d like to get rid of it in some way, we don’t need 3 DS systems (my girlfriend has one too).

You could just put it on eBay, but for a nice low price. Be up front about the damage, include a picture, but be sure to price it fairly low. Someone may be interested, you never know.

Just as @Les said Ebay or you can also try Craigslist.

Actually I’m pretty sure the left cracked hinge is a known defect that Nintendo admitted to (mine has it too) and if you call them they may be able to replace it for you.

Your assumption about the crack becoming bigger is not accurate. As I said, my DS lite also has a cracked left hinge, it’s had it since the defect was found so at least a year or so. It doesn’t affect the unit whatsoever, and the cover’s integrity has not gone downhill either. It really is a non-issue.

@dynamicduo, same here.

I got mine the first month of release, and it’s been fine. It is a known defect, but I believe the statute of limitations is expired.

Craigslist it, so you dont have to ship. I get responses fairly quickly.

I agree that you should contact them about it. If they won’t replace it for free maybe you could get a discount on the repair. You’d be able to sell it for more without it being damaged.

That said, people will buy it as is. Try craigslist first, then ebay.

If all else fails, give it to me. ;)

@dragonflyfaith haha… I’ll give it a shot… if nothing works… your on. :)

I’ve always been weary of Craigslist… but it’s worth a shot.
