Single people absolutely CAN adopt. You will have to have a home inspection and your lifestyle will be scrutinized.
If you’re a long-haul trucker, you probably won’t qualify for single-parenthood adoption. Providing a stable home for a child is of utmost importance and extensive traveling and living on the road would not be considered a stable home environment. It doesn’t mean that you’d make a bad parent, but there definitely are some parameters when it comes to adopting a child.
Still, contact your county child welfare department. They have orientations at least once a month where you can have most of your questions answered. The first step is to qualify as a foster home – even if you have no intention of fostering kids – and then you can be put on a list as a prospective adoptive parent.
Best of luck to you in getting the answers you need. Parents have to make big sacrifices in their lives for their children. Sometimes even career changes.
