Do you ever feel like your questions get moderated more than other peoples'? What gives?

“Great Question” (0points)

A while ago, I asked a question that was something along the lines of “Did I accomplish [whatever it was]?” and in the details I wrote something like “Yes I did, cool huh?”. But it was removed because they said I wasn’t really asking anything, but Augustlan, who is a mod, asked exactly the same construction here: http://www.fluther.com/disc/24863/was-i-successful-in-my-epic-quest-to-get-my-republican/.
and that was months ago, and it’s still there.

And just a minute ago, a question of mine was removed because the tags “didn’t match the question”. And yes, some of them were quite silly but I see tags that don’t match the question and are very silly all the time and respondents always write things like “lurve for the tags!”

Have you ever felt this way? What gives?

Its cause I told the mods you were talkin trash about them.

To be fair, her’s had a bit more substance and information. You’re was like a personal cheer leading moment. :-/ Not bad by any means, just not the same at all.

I’ve only ever had two questions modded, one was something I knew would be removed. It was silly and it was just for fun. I didn’t take it personally when it was removed. I was actually a little miffed it took them so long to notice. Hmpf!

The other, was modded, and after editing it was brought back. :)

That’s all I remember anyway, so no, I don’t feel that way. Not ever. :)

And for tags, well. Usually, I like to spice it up and add a random thought on the last one. But 9/10 the tags are on topic. If more than half are off-topic, I fully support a modding.

I feel your pain.

[mod says] First of all, there were legitimate reasons for your question to be pushed to editing. To be fair to you, I won’t list them here. Second of all, mods aren’t robots. We make decisions that usually the majority agree with, but not always. We also aren’t perfect, and sometimes, questions slip through the probably should have been moderated, or, we are overexuberant. Third, the question you mentioned from Augustlan was more substantiative, and, more importantly, was asked long before she became a moderator. Finally, neither she nor any other moderator is shown any extra leniency or privilege. We are jellies, just like everyone else.

the CIA thread is hysterical!!!

asmonet's avatar

Ah, I remember when a few of us bombed it at Nimis urging. It was wonderful.

@asmonet

lol, that was something. I swear my browser crashed like 12 times from all the xyz….is crafting, haha

I think if a thread just needs some editing, it’s not like the Mods deleted it. Just edit what needs to be fixed, and it’ll be back on the site.

You pays the piper; you calls the tune.

Don’t take it personally. Use their guidance to make your questions acceptable or just don’t ask it.

Everyone (almost) has had a question modded or removed. I know I have.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

After glancing through my emails from fluther, I realized I’ve only had 2 questions actually moderated too (a 3rd one, I PMed a mod, and asked them to remove it), so I guess that’s probably not more than most people. I appreciate everyone’s answers.

I’ve had three questions modded. One was allowed after I fixed it. One was allowed, but disappeared. One, I believe, has been in moderation for a few weeks now. Maybe the jelly ate it.

aviona's avatar

All my fixed modded questions have disappeared I think.

I’ve had several flagged. I’m highly educated, but still don’t know what constitutes a good question on fluther.

wundayatta's avatar

Update. They found it. It had been modded idiotically. They said it was a poll. I don’t know how they got that, when the details specifically asked for examples of their answer to the question. By that logic, half the questions on fluther would be modded away. Maybe someone was having a bad hair day, or too much road rage. I tarted it up a bit, mostly with a diatribe about the ridiculous moderation. We’ll see if they dare let it past their screens.

I love how people bitch about the mods moderating questions or answers but really its not them. Its us. We are the ones who flag questions and answers. So really we are the ones who deem these questions to be modded. The mods just come along and clean up.

I also love how many people bitch about how its so unfair or whatnot that their question/answer has been modded. I would love someone to present me with one, just one example of a question/answer that was modded that didnt go against the guidelines. Stop complaining and follow the rules.

@uberbatman

Can you please tell me how this question:

Do you think of yourself as lucky or unfortunate? Why?

Please provide examples for your answer.

Violates these guidelines (copied at 9:30 am on March 19, 2009):

Our trusty moderators will remove anything that is:

* Tragically misspelled
* Totally open-ended or poorly thought out
* Trolling (or thinly masked propaganda)
* Self-promotional (No peddling, promos, or marketing)
* Egocentric attention-grabbing
* Hateful, abusive, or bigoted
* Deceitful
* Vague, confusing, or generally non-sensical
* A personal attack
* Off-topic chatter or an inside joke
* Excessive txtspeak (“ZOMG r u 4 real?!?!?!!? LOL”)

Of course, we also remove the obvious stuff:

* Illegal content
* Spam, or anything that smells like it
* Pornography, obscenity or obviously NSFW content (R-Rated is okay as long as it’s not on the front page)

lefteh's avatar

I’m not a mod, but I’d definitely consider that totally open-ended and vague, both of which are against the guidelines.
Perhaps a better question would be more specific: “When it comes to your financial portfolio, does your luck seem to tip one way or the other?”
That way, answers would contrast those who bought thousands in Bear Stearns before it crashed and those who know nothing about the stock market but just keep making money off it it rather than pitting those who went to a bar and picked up two girls to take home against those who always seem to be the target of dogs that “don’t bite.” Specificity encourages apples being compared to apples rather than oranges.

El_Cadejo's avatar

Lefteh beat me to it, i also believe its totally open ended and vague.
