Exercise question: When should i exercise, before or after supper?

My 2 options are before supper (right after school) or after supper (2 hours after or something) Which would be best though? i’ve tried to look it up, but I get 2 sorts of answers. Some sources say that exercising before supper helps lose weight and keeps your appetite down, but some say to exercise after supper since you have something to burn. Which would be best for losing weight?

Another question: How does running hurt your joints? and so then how much running should i do a day to be safe? Is jogging safer than running?

Either way is fine. If you exercise right after, it might be uncomfortable. Two hours is fine, though, and if you eat a high-fat meal, exercise after if beneficial.

Before is fine. Again, right before is likely to decrease your appetite immediately, but a couple of hours before should be fine.

So, go with your preference.

If those are your options I would suggest after school, if you exercise between then and dinner then do homework right away the ‘high’ you get from working out will be wearing off and you will be able to fall into bed wonderfully.

As for the advice of exercising after dinner to have something to burn… that’s bull. Don’t listen to that. :)

Running hurts your joints because you’re bouncing up and down and stressing them. There’s a lot of impact. I usually walk and then for the last 10–15 minutes I run flat out or jog before my cool down. Then I move to free weights and machines. If you’re worried about your joints, try the elliptical machines. They’re low impact and hard as hell to do if you’re not used to it.

I prefer before supper simply because too much in my stomach causes me to feel queasy. However, I may have a small snack about 30 minutes before exercising just to keep me concentrating on my muscles and not my hunger pangs.

Earlier in the day tends to be helpful to weight loss because exercise raises your rate of metabolism for a while after you have stopped, so you burn more calories for the rest of the day.

The best answer is to exercise as early in the day as possible. We are really good at finding reasons (excuses too) not to exercise. The sooner you get it out of the way the better. If something comes up to get in the way of the earlier time slot then you have the second time slot available to get it done anyway. JUST DO IT!

Before before before!!! It is important to eat within an hour or two after you excersize so that your body stays strong and healthy. But it is important to excersize either way, so if you can’t fit it in before and have to do it after, that is healthier than not doing it at all.

You can work out EITHER WAY.

As for me, my work out time varies. I have worked out BEFORE and AFTER dinner.

Before dinner, I usually have a small meal with enough carbs and glycogen to power my work out then I wait about an hour or two depending on how I feel. If I feel lighter then I am set.

After dinner, since I eat less at night, I usually have some sort of soup or salad and some pita or bread. I also wait and hour or two before I hit the gym or before I swim. As for me, I am a swimmer and it is best not to feel heavy before I compete. I usually have a little energy bar just to fuel my system.

So, overall, “I” think you can perform your routine either way. As long as you wait and let your system digest your food first before you work out.

And to answer your question about running, If properly done it should not have a negative effect. If you take proper precautions and run responsibly then you are golden, wear supportive shoes and replace them when they are bad, try incorporating cross-running with rest days to your work out schedule would be better.

My take on running, I use variety of cardio machines. I spend MAX of 10 minutes running, if Im not running I really like the eliptical and cross ramp. Or simply swimming is my cardio.
